The Barbie Twilight Edward doll is inspired by the character Edward Cullen from the hugely successful Twilight books and movies. In fact he is actually modeled on the movie character so bears a similarity to the actor Robert Pattinson, who played Edward Cullen).

As the name suggests, the doll is produced by Mattel Toys the makers of Barbie dolls. As the doll is male, he is based on the male version of the Barbie doll, the Ken doll.

He can be purchased separately or as part of a set with the Bella Swan doll. Both dolls are officially licensed products to Summit Entertainment, the producers of the Twilight films.

The Edward Barbie doll went into the shops at the beginning of November 2009 to take advantage of the release of New Moon, the second Twilight film. The doll is bound to be popular with fans of the movies and books. It would be an ideal Christmas present for “Twilighters” and would probably be a shrewd acquisition for collectors of Twilight memorabilia or doll collectors.

The Edward doll is branded under the Pink Label range of dolls. This label indicates that it is a collectible item but can also be a toy if you want to reenact parts of the movies or imagine your own scenarios for Edward.

The Barbie Twilight Edward doll is a replica of the character in the movie. Edward, or more precisely, the actor Robert Pattinson. Thus the doll has a striking similarity to Pattinson. After the face and clothing of the Edward doll, he pretty much resembles a Ken doll. He stands around 12 inches tall. He can bendable his legs at the knees and his head can swivel from side to side.

The doll comes in pink trimmed packaging, with a plain plastic front piece and sides so that the doll can be viewed easily without need to remove the packaging.

Background On Edward Cullen

Edward Cullen is actually 107 years old at the start of the Twilight series, however he only looks 17 and goes to high school. This incongruity is explained by the fact that he is actually a vampire (his whole family are vampires actually). He was turned into a vampire when he was 17 to prevent his death from the Spanish influenza virus that devastated many regions of the world in the 1918.

He describes himself as a vegetarian vampire, meaning that he does not drink the blood of humans and only drinks animal blood. When Bella Swan arrives in Forks, she develops an attraction to Edward. This is not completely reciprocated by Edward because he does not believe a human/vampire relationship has any long term future. However, mainly due to Bella’s determination to get closer to Edward, the relationship develops. Edward becomes very protective of Bella, especially around other vampires that do drink human blood. He even fights against the vampire James to protect and preserve Bella’s life.
