Twilight Barbie Dolls – Edward and Bella
The Twilight Barbie dolls made by Mattel in conjunction with Summit Entertainment have been introduced to coincide with the release of the latest Twilight movie, New Moon. They are sure to be a hit amongst fans of the books/movie franchise and collectors of dolls in general.
At this stage the only Twilight Barbie dolls produced are the Edward Cullen and Bella Swan dolls. You do wonder if a Jacob doll will be released in the future given the immense popularity of the character. In fact, it is due for release on the 1st March 2010. Both the new dolls are similar to the current range of Barbie dolls in terms of dimensions. They stand around 12 inches high (actual dimensions : 3.4 x 6 x 12 inches).
They have bendable legs at the knee. The most obvious factor that the dolls are in fact related to the Twilight movies is the faces (or heads). Edward has the recognizably pale complexion and spiky brown hair. He has the chiseled jawline and high cheekbones. He has a hazel to medium brown eye color. Bella has long brown hair and brown/green eyes with painted black eyelashes. Bella’s facial features are very similar to the normal Barbie doll.
The dolls come in outfits that resemble the clothing worn by the characters in the film. So Bella will be dressed in sneakers, jeans and a pale blue jacket. Edward wears dark shoes, jeans, a blue shirt and charcoal gray jacket. The clothing have tags indicating that they are related to Summit entertainment.
The Twilight Barbie dolls are designated as part of the Pink Label™ range of Barbie dolls. This label is mainly for identifying the level of exclusivity of the doll for collectors. Pink means there is no preset limit on the number of dolls that will be produced although this doesn’t necessarily mean that demand won’t outstrip supply. It also relates to the packaging which is important for collectors as they will probably never take it out of this packaging. Not surprisingly, the Pink Label™ packaging has a pink accented color scheme and clear plastic front for easy viewing of the doll.
Edward and Bella – Vampire and Vampire girl
At the start of the Twilight series and movies, Bella Swan is a 17 year old girl that relocates to Forks, Washington state to be with her father. She meets Edward Cullen at school and becomes fascinated by him. This is intensified after the pair become involved in various incidents where Edward saves Bella’s life.
Edward has incredibly pale skin, he appears quite aloof in school which only adds to the allure and intrigue that takes hold of Bella. He also displays some seemingly super human strengths and skills when saving Bella.
Throughout the film it is revealed that Edward is in fact a vampire. He is also 107 years old having been turned into a vampire to save his life from the Spanish flu virus in 1918. The rest of the first book and film details the relationship that develops between these two characters. It appears to be a doomed romance because vampires and humans are hardly compatible. And this tension drives the story forward and sets up the second and third novels/films.
New Moon is the second film and develops the character Jacob Black. Jacob was only a platonic friend to Bella in the first film but this relationship becomes stronger in New Moon. And Jacob reveals a few secrets about his own family too.
